Installing an Adaptec 29320R in Redhat8 (April '03 Krud) Situation: Set up two 29320 controllers with a drive on each B channel. (B is the fast channel) Create a software RAID 1 structure and setup Redhat 8 (Krud). Problem: I loaded the aic79xx driver from a diskette by typing in "linux dd" at the screen where it asks for optional kernel parameters. I loaded the stock driver provided by adaptec. Only one controller was recognized and no drives. "No SCSI devices found". I then downloaded a beta driver from Justin T. Gibbs at http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/DUD/aic79xx/. Still no luck. Solution: I sent an email to Justin Gibbs (gibbs@scsiguy.com) and he suggested turning off the HostRAID features on all channels. That fixed the problem. Now I have both drives working at top speed on separate cards.
