Recovering Linux Video

Just boot up, when you lose the screen, press control-alt-F1

Switch from X to command line wityh ctrl-alt-F1 or ctrl-alt-F6.

Get back with CTRL-ALT-F7.

Start extra X sessions on F8, F9, F10 etc and switch between them.

linux 3 at the kernel prompt starts linux in text mode, then you just run the Xconfig

tool or exit, edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the default

res to something that works. Better yet, set your X to use multiple

resolutions so you can cycle through them with ctrl-alt-"+" and "-".

Then if you select a borked resolution, you can just drop down to

one that works.
